Pretty much nothing going on with me. Monitor troubles, though. It's weird...it was working fine a couple of days ago and then everything all of a sudden turned a shade of purple and then it flickered back to normal, then back to purple, then normal, purple, normal, and it finally settled on purple. It kinda looks like someone moved up the R and B settings. So all the colors are screwed up and it strains my eyes to look at the moitor for long periods of time. So yeah, I don't know if that's a monitor problem or a CPU problem or whatever. I don't know if I should buy a new monitor or have the old one repaired or just buy a completely new system (although maybe not for lack of money) since the one I have is 4 years old. Any suggestions on new systems? And by 'suggestions' I mean 'cheap but good.' I was thinking Dell. Maybe a notebook.

Yay. Art.

I don't know what the dots are at the bottom of the pic (though I kinda dig them). Click for the bigger version. Painted all in PS, referenced from a black and white photo I found online. Morena something-or-other. She's an actress...she was on Firefly. Didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped but I still like it.

Happy Birthday Shal!!! I was totally going to call you except I forgot that I don't have your number.
So yesterday was Wondercon. We got off to late start. I did wake up at 8:30 am to go see my nephew start his first day at soccer. It was cute. Children are easily amused by feigned stupidity. So after that I got some Jamba and then Paolo and LA picked me up at around 11. We went to pick up Mikey (Paolo's nephew) and then met James at the Milbrae bart station. We got to the con at around 1, just in time for Trailer Park. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Day after Tomorrow and Sky Captain. Then we looked around and bought a bunch of stuff; comics, dvds, toys, shirts, and a katana sword. I didn't spend as much as I had budgeted (a good thing). We took pictures with some of the costumed folks there. All of James's pics are of him being beaten or killed by the costumed. We decided not to take a picture with Wonder Woman/Man. I might post a couple soon. We stayed for the Tobey Maguire appearance. After that we had some food at Chevys then went back in for the indy film distribution seminar. That was it. We rode the train back then took more pictures at the station. For the whole day I was calling people left and right to cover for me today. I thankfully found someone. Today was Alice and Thi's graduation. I didn't think I was going so I didn't buy them anything. So early in the morning (after church) I was rushing around trying to find something to get them. We were like half an hour late to the grad but we didn't miss much. It was so hot so we (Paolo, James, Alice's family, and I) just sat behind the stage in the glorious shade. So it finally ended. More pictures. We didn't see Thi because she left immediately after the ceremony. Christine invited me to go with the family to dinner but I ended up going to Todais for Jericho's party. Seafood buffet. Very good stuff, especially the mini Tiramisu things. I feel fat now. I think we were supposed to go bowling tonight but everyone's probably too tired to do anything. Work tomorrow at 9. Yay.

Today was pretty cool. In the morning we went to buy shin guards for my nephew for his first day of soccer tomorrow. Which reminds me, I have to get up early to watch that. Then we made a large papier mache egg-shaped thing. It's gonna be a Power Ranger head pinata for the nephew's birthday party. Paolo, his brother, and I wanted to go catch a movie. I wanted to watch Hellboy because I still haven't, but there was only one showing at 9:40. So instead, we watched Mean Girls. Alice called me and she was laughing at three guys buying tickets for Mean Girls. I actually liked the movie. After that we went to the comic store and then for some Jamba and worked out a schedule for filming. I have to try to get someone to cover for me at work on Sunday, cuz Alice just asked me to go to her graduation. So far no luck. And then I have to decide which grad party I'm going to, Thi's or Jericho's. Blah. Too much going on. Looking forward to Wondercon tomorrow. Hopefully the day turns out well.
Just a question for people who do commissions: What do you normally charge? For, like, comic book-ish pics. There are a few people on devart asking me, and I never feel comfortable giving a quote. Just wondering.

Let's see... I had work yesterday. 9.oo. I hate opening the store. They keep sticking me with that one girl I hate working with. I spend a couple of hours getting the store prepped and clean. Then she comes in and I go on my half hour lunch. When I come back the place looks like shit. I can't request to not work with her ever again because she's the boss's daughter. Then Paolo and I got some Taco Bell. Got to ride in his brand new (and very sweet) car. We are so gonna start shooting Bloodline instead of just talking about it. Soon. So I was supposed to start a series of Painter Classic pieces, but that's on hold because it's not that far away from April 1st and I still haven't decided on a Hellboy scene to draw. I've narrowed it down from 10 to 3. But yeah, all art time will now be dedicated to Hellboy. This is what I've got so far on the pic that kuje sent. I'm thinking of just taking out the background altogether. Still need to smooth things out (maybe).

Still pretty boring here. I went to the comic store with Paolo. Saturday I think. First time I've been there in a couple months. I just bought a lot of junk from the quarter bin and the 1/2 off books. I got a couple issues of Walking Dead. Highly enjoyable. I hate work. I had to open again. 9 am. And it was pretty hot today so we were extremely busy. I know my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, but, damn, there were just too many. I contemplated "accidentaly" breaking the shake machine. I didn't get much cake work done. I got another cut on my fingers. I get at least two every time I work. So I sport bandages pretty consistently. I'm wearing gloves from now on. Not much going on with the website. Woo-hoo, not even a week in and I'm already losing steam. I think I'm going with the version that Gwendi played around with. I've been doing some designs for an Asian Gang website. Just to house all the stupid little things I've done related to AG. I also want to do a site for Bloodline. I want to use some fonts I got off misprintedtype but my computer doesn't seem to be letting me add any fonts. Um...I guess that's it. I've got a couple of pics to color and some Hellboy I need to re-read.

The past couple of days have been pretty expensive. Friday was my mom's birthday so my sister and I split on a bouquet, shoes and a purse from Aldo, and dinner at the Cheesecake Factory on University. I kinda liked the Cheesecake Factory. It's a long wait and the lighting is horrible but the food was good. In the waiting area people were firmly against standing still so I couldn't do much life studies. My nephew kept walking around the waiting area introducing himself to strangers as Juni Cortez (we had just rented Spy Kids 3-D). Thumbs up to the Shrimp New Orleans, although the cream sauce made me a bit lightheaded. And big thumbs up to the Tiramisu cheesecake. And then the next day was my sister's birthday. So flowers again. I didn't know what to get her, so I got her a scarf and cash. Sunday was work. Okay. I finished my cake list, so that was good. After work was some Chuck E Cheese again. Some 10 year old kid beat me at the basketball game. I watched little snippets of the Academy Awards. Pretty boring. But yay Lord of the Rings. I kinda wanted Naomi Watts to win, but that's just because I like histrionic yelling. I also wanted Eduardo Serra to win. I was supposed to watch The Passion of the Christ today but we had the nephew with us so we ended up doing mall stuff. I bought a belt. Skipped on the new jeans. I went into Hot Topic. I kinda liked a lot of stuff I saw in there. Except I knew that I would never actually wear any of it in public. I'm getting old. And now I have to work in about an hour. Whee. So, uh, that's it.

My life's been fairly uneventful as of late. Babysitting, work, sleep. All set on an endless cycle. Today I got a haircut. Whee. My sister cut my hair actually. It's not butchered so I'm thankful that I won't have to wear a hat for the next few weeks. Had some McDonalds for lunch. Went to school to work on my painting. It's pretty much still going nowhere. I just waited it out til it was time for Life Drawing. Alice didn't show up. Big ditcher. It was pretty boring. Someone made us listen to Shakira. But, because there's a god, the CD was scratched and we listened to the radio instead. Jazz station, which I kinda liked. I didn't really like the model so I didn't do very well, drawing-wise. My last drawing in my sketchbook turned out pretty well though. I like when we have the model half-dressed in her robe. I should post that soon. I should actually start posting a lot of stuff from my sketchbook soon, but I don't have any webspace and a lot of people don't like going to deviantart. So um...just take my word that it turned out well. That's such an equal alternative. Well that's it.

Today was pretty good. I had to babysit my nephew today. I'm thinking of putting a ban on all play-doh related toys in the house. It's a huge bitch to clean up. That went okay. I'm still very sure that I'm not a kid person. For and hour or so? Cool. More than that? I get kinda antsy to get away. Weird. Fried up some lumpia for lunch. Paolo picked me up 'round 5 and we went to school to see Alice. For the movie we wanted to try and do some full head (or maybe just the face) casts. We asked Leon (sculpture professor) for some help on how to go about doing that. He showed us some video with some incredibly strange woman waxing philosophical (Willa something-or-other). But it was pretty informative. We need to look for a place that sells plaster bandages. We're kinda iffy on whether or not to buy alginate to do the face cast. We might buy it to do some teeth casts. Have to find a place that sells that too. I was supposed to TA tonight. And I started off pretty well. I set up the model stand and fixed some lighting and whatnot. But then I just ditched the class to go work on the homemade camera stabilizer with Paolo. Drilling through galvanized steel is not easy. Or quiet, as the Life Drawing class 2 rooms away can attest to. But we got it done and it works pretty well. Then I went back to class for the last 10 minutes and got a couple of sketches done. I am the best TA ever. Hey, you get what you pay for. Then it was back home. I just finished typing out a resume for myself. Incredibly difficult, since I really don't have much work experience to speak of and I needed something to fill up all the empty space. I hate job hunting. On the plus, my hand seems to be healing fine. No Munday yet, but I'm working on it.

Stabbing yourself in the hand is not pleasant. So I'm like some sort of magnet for work-related accidents. From cutting myself across my fingers with a spoon, to having a 3 gallon tub of ice cream (in a -10 degree freezer, so pretty solid) falling on my head. Yesterday I was trying to pry off some decorations from a cake that got fucked up (they were really stuck on there). My offset spatula is flimsy and useless, so hey, why not use the paring knife? It worked a bit too well, not only successfully prying off the decorations, but going through 2 layers of box and into my hand. And of course it's the hand that does all things work-related (but thankfully not art-related), so it's constantly throbbing with pain anytime I do anything at work.
I've been pretty lazy for the past couple of weeks. I colored my Asian Gang pin-up I did months ago. I'll upload that later. I've been slowly finishing off the storyboards to Paolo's movie. I hope filming starts soon. I need to go to the comic store and pick up some stuff. I want to get the Fray trade. Oh yeah, I still have my Wolverine comics to read (thanks James). I'd been meaning to pick up the new series. Now I don't need to.
Okay, uh...tomorrow is the first day back at Life Drawing. Yea nudity. I keep forgetting to go to Aaron Brothers and pick up some new brushes. So I probably won't get to paint til then. I hope I don't have to do anything too TA-ish since it's just the first day of drawing. I seriously suck at giving any sort of direction or instruction.
I really hope I have the time to do a Munday for this week.

Work sucked today. I had to come in at 9 to open the store. The weather was crap. My leg was aching for a bit. After that went away, my neck started to hurt. I could barely turn my head. It eventually subsided. I decided not to eat lunch today to save money and ended up tasting copper for the rest of my shift until I had some banana and water. It kept raining and there's only one place in our store where the ceiling leaks. And of course it's right where I do my cakes. So a bunch of them have little discs of ice that I can't get off. And some cakes have shallow craters where the water dropped. I hate this weather. So then I finally got off work and we went to eat dinner. My sister was craving Vietnamese so we went to this one retaurant in San Mateo on El Camino. We'd never been there. Their food was ass. The only thing I enjoyed was my 7up because it came in a can and they couldn't do anything to fuck it up. So now I'm doing a mini junk food binge; Doritos, snack cakes, and chocolates I bought as Xmas gifts in case I forgot anyone but I didn't so now they're all mine. Um...I got my pictures developed from last Saturday (at Malibu). My APS camera really sucks. Especially at night shots. I might post a few. I'm still trying to do some storyboarding. A little more complicated than I thought. That's it. I'm really sleepy. I hate waking up at 8:30. And I have to work tomorrow too, but at least that's at night.

I'm tired today. I had work today. Non-stop cakes. I'm gonna ask for a raise tomorrow. Also went to Chuck E Cheese so my nephew could play. Xmas was good this year. Xmas eve we went to church and had some dinner. I got to make those spinach pinwheels I've been wanting to do (thanks Haruka). On Xmas day we drove to Santa Rosa to my aunt's house for lunch. Then back home for dinner. Pretty quiet day. I think the clear winner is my nephew, Christian, who made off with a ton of Power Rangers DinoThunder toys. I didn't do too bad myself. Got a couple of DVDs, a couple of CDs, a beanie with a scarf (Thank you Alice), 2 more Aldo beanies from my sister, some cologne, cash, GAP cards, photo album (needed that). And my mom's supposed to take me to buy a digital camera soon. After weeks and weeks of deliberating, I think I'm getting the Canon Powershot A70. Nothing much on the art front. I'm trying to do some storyboards for Paolo's movie, i.e. "the project". I've been doodling a bit on my new sketchbook. So that's good. I need to sleep early tonight since I've got work tomorrow at 9.

I haven't updated in a while. So um...I'm 22 now. That was pretty cool. Had some birthday lunch last Sunday, which was followed by House of Humor and a porn store with Alice and Paolo. 100% Fat Hardcore rules! Monday was all day shopping. I got just about all my Xmas shopping done that day. Tuesday was birthday dinner. I got Two Towers extended (yay) and money (YAY!). Oh and a new sketchbook (which I really needed) and a gift certificate to Aaron Brothers (so I can buy me some new paintbrushes since I'm stupid and leave them sitting in the turpenoid and they lose all their bristles) and a new cell. Um...I don't remember Wednesday or Thursday. Friday I watched Return of the King. I loved it except for what seemed like a drawn-out ending. Yesterday, did a little more shopping. At night Alice, Paolo, James, and I went out for a late birthday thing. We went to Malibu and did some arcade stuff. Won some tickets and got a bunch of small prizes with which we proceeded to hit each other with. Then we went for a round of mini golf in the rain, where we proceeded to hit each other with the clubs. I was winning at the beginning but then I sucked big time at the end. We left and got some coffee. We tried to get into the art classrooms at school but security wouldn't open them for us even though our names are on the list of students who can page security to have them let us in whenever we want. And the guy had to drive down to the classrooms just to tell us that he's not going to let us in. He was a fucking rude bastard. Granted, it was 1 in the morning, but our advisors told us we could come anytime. So he wouldn't let us in and I didn't have my key to the building anymore so we left, all the while cursing the security guard and making fun of his accent. Then we drove to the CSM and just sat in a parking lot, singing Disney songs and telling ghost stories with my keychain flashlight. I blinded myself a couple times. I got to hold a cigarette so I wouldn't feel left out. Then it was off to home. I thought it was a great night. I got them some Xmas gifts which I hope they really like because I kinda suck at buying gifts. Um...so that's it. You're probably bored by now. I have to go to church in 30 followed by work.

So today was good. Um...I woke up at 7:30 this morning to go to church at 8. Right after that was work at 9. I hardly got anything done. Just a couple of orders including some hideous dog cake. Had some Hawaiian Drive-in for lunch. I got off of work at 3:30. Decided to do some more thrift shopping and got some t-shirts. Then went to K-Mart for some toiletries and such. Bought some pizza (large one-topping for $5). Then I went to school for Life Drawing class. It was their last day so they were critiquing their final projects. Since I don't actually go to school anymore, I had nothing to show and just sat in the back. After class Alice and I waited for Paolo to stop watching Buffy and meet us at school. We drove to CSM to see a small jazz concert. James is the drummer for the Wednesday night group or something. It was pretty cool. I've been getting into jazz lately. Um...we decided not to conga line down the aisles. They had some smokes and we just talked. I saw Doug, a guy I used to work with. I think he's trombone. Then more talk. And we drove back to school to get Alice's car. More talk. Then home. So it was a cool night. We made some plans for my birthday. I miss all the hanging out we did when I was still going to school. My mom was upset when I got home because I didn't call to say that I was going out. She's a worrier. But that's cool. And completely justified. I am definitely sleeping in tomorrow. Then I'm reading the script to Bloodline.

I'm tired. Yesterday I woke up at 8 to go to work. Pretty busy. It was raining after work so I didn't do anything. We got a Xmas tree though. We decorated. My nephew wanted to do most of the decorating. He's 3 so almost all of the balls and bells are at the bottom of the tree. Today I woke up at 5 so the family and I could drive to Yuba City for my cousin's baby's 1st birthday party. It was good. My nephew had a lot of fun on the bouncy castle. I scored myself some children's gift bags full of candy. Right after the party ended we drove straight to the Cow Palace for my mom's work's Xmas get-together/party. The Dickens Fair was going on and it was pretty cool. People in period garb talking in accents. The place smelled like a stable though. I guess it was for authenticity. Had some really good bread pudding which I was actually planning to make for Xmas. Tomorrow I have to get up at 8 again for work. I was supposed to paint this past week but didn't find the time. I went thrift store shopping though and got some good stuff. I guess it was a good enough trade-off. I'm not nearly getting as much done (art-wise) as I want. I also really need to settle down and finish my resume and organize my portfolio so I can properly go job hunting. Although I'm really debating on going to grad school. I don't know where to apply. I might want to stay in CA so I may try Stanford or CCAC. My painting and drawing instructor told me I should try for Yale. It'll probably all depend on whether or not I can still get scholarships. Blah. My life sucks.

Well, nothing's been happenning. So I'm astoundingly bored. The weather was pretty crappy all weekend. On Sunday after work, I went with my ilttle nephew to the Redwood City caltrain station to see the train all lighted up and hear some carolers and get free candy. I was bored, but at least he enjoyed it. Monday was work. Blah. Then Life Drawing. I got another painting done. I have this really large canvas that I should start something on. I'm just incredibly lazy. Also, I don't really know what to paint on it. It's a little daunting having that large an area to work with (like 4 ft by some other ft). I also need to get a new palette. I never scrape my paint off my masonite board and it's already a couple of inches high of semi-dried oils. I also got a pencil on toned paper drawing done. I should post that later. My birthday's coming up. I don't know if I want to do anything for it. I hardly ever celebrate birthdays anyway. My sister's coming back from Guam tomorrow. Well, today technically. So that's cool. I'll post the first three panels to my munday strip when I wake up (that's all I've finished so far).
Now I'm torn between digital or SLR. I don't have the money for both. I'm leaning towards digital because my scanner is crap.

Hm, haven't updated in a week. Mostly because life's been quite boring. I don't remember the weekend. Monday I went to work for 8 hours. Had to finish like 6 orders completely from scratch (usually we get 2 days to finish orders, but I was the only decorator working that week). Paolo stopped by and dropped me off at school for Life Drawing. We ended up just talking about Bloodline (a film that he's written and will commence shooting sometime December...maybe?). So now I have to learn how to make a plaster mold of his head for the movie. Can't wait to read the script. I think I'll watch One with the Bullet one more time. And then we talked movies with Rachelle while she painted. Then the Life Drawing class had a break so Alice got out and she and Paolo had a cig or 3 while I breathed in the second-hand. It felt like old times. Very nostalgic. So I only got one 20 minute painting done that night. And apparently I am going to TA the class next semester for fear of Alice causing me physical injury. Um...Tuesday: work. Wednesday: Library (I took my nephew to borrow some books). Thursday: cooking. So Thanksgiving was kinda nice. It was just a small family dinner so we didn't have that big of a spread. Individual cornish hens, rice pilaf, mashed sweet potatoes, brown sugar glazed carrots, pumpkin pie, and creme brulee (which good lord, those are addictive). That's about it. I was supposed to do a Munday strip but I got distracted by watching all those Jordy Bogguss films that Chris linked to. Incredibly insane stuff. I should have one for this coming Munday.
On a side note, I'm thinking of getting myself a digital camera. Except I have absolutely no knowledge of digital cameras. Anyone have suggestions for a good quality, yet inexpensive (very) one?

I haven't been doing much lately. I've really been itching to start building my site again. But I spent so much time on the last one only to have it erased. That's a big de-motivator. I also wanted to do an Asian Gang site since I have a bunch of pages and sketches and pictures of my friends doing ninja poses to put up. I just need to sit down and commit myself to doing these things. It doesn't help though that my attention span is practically non-existant. I started reading Return of the King. Next up is possibly Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead. I'm planning my Thanksgiving menu. It's hard when I don't really know how to cook anything. So far all I know that I'm making is creme brulee for dessert. I need to go buy ramakins. Possibly a blowtorch. I also made up a X-mas wish list which is completely exorbitant and I fully expect not to get anything on the list. Here's hoping for lots of monetary gifts. Work tonight was okay. I only did 8 cakes in 4 hours since they were all special orders. I had to make a bunch of stupid buttercream flowers and they kept falling apart. A disgruntled employee muttering expletives while making purple roses...that's me.
I added a little thing to my munday logo. It was before I got my haircut.
I'm glad that people actually like my logo. I'll probably ink it and rescan it so it's cleaner.
